The Plough at Shiplake

The Plough at Shiplake

More recently known as The Plowden Arms, The Plough has been operating as a pub in the heart of Shiplake Cross for generations. It started life as a two-bay house, built circa 1600 and developed into a multi-room public house by the end of the 19th century.

Over the past 18 months the pub itself has undergone extensive renovations- both inside and out. Customers are welcomed on arrival by the beautifully decorated bar area, where local beers and spirits are served and dogs are welcome to enjoy a special treat. The rest of the pub provides the perfect ambiance for a delicious meal and the decor has been designed to make you feel at home, including reinstating the warming, open fire.

" Preserving this beautiful building was always at the heart of my decision making, " explains owner Jill Sikkens. " The most important thing to us is ensuring our guests have a wonderful experience- from the food and drinks, to the music, atmosphere and of course service. We especially love having locals visit and hear about how the pub has evolved over the years. I like to think past landlords would be very proud of what we're doing now. "

Guests are always welcome to just pop in, however, if you'd like to book a table please call 0118 940 3999.
