Annual Parish Meeting
The Annual Parish Meeting (APM) is generally scheduled for the Spring of each year with details displayed on Council notice boards and on this website.

Next Meeting: The 2026 APM is scheduled for Thursday 21st May 2026 in the Memorial Hall at 6.30pm. The agenda is shown HERE

PARISH COUNCIL COMMITMENTS & INITIATIVES
What does the Parish Council spend the money on that you pay in taxes, the Community Infrastucture Levy (CIL) received when bulding plans are approved and constructed, plus any grants from local authorities and other sources? All this and more was presented at the APM on 16/05/2024
Replacement of bus shelters in Lower Shiplake and New speed awareness signs are clearly visible improvements, some of the costs of which benefited from grants. You can quickly gain an appreciation of other expenditure and the major initiatives the council is committing to for the overall benefit of residents:
The benefits of the Neighbourhood Plan(NP) are being realised, albeit large scale developments are always challenging. The council's views on any planning application will be based on our NP with particular reference to the overall character of and specific areas of the villages.
What else? Shiplake is jointly submitting with Harpsden, Binfield Heath, Eye & Dunsden, Sonning Common, Kidmore End & Mapledurham, an application to extend the Chiltern's AONB across the parishes, including the landscapes down to the Thames. This is an outcome of the independent Glover Report on behalf of the government. ....only 2 AONB's (of 46 in the UK) have been chosen for review...the Chiltern's is one...a decision next year?
Can we improve the villages website? Overall the survey undertaken last year referenced many +ve views from residents; a key element of the site, launched in early 2014, included the interactive capabilities via the Forum, the abilitiy to get resident's views/votes via questionnaires and improved access to internet websites etc. Access via mobile and other devices, however, is a weakness as is uploading of information, which should be improved....work in progress.

The Government (at last) is consulting with Natural England on extending the Chilterns AONB after years of lobbying by our local parishes...how would this change what we have now?

Annual Parish Meeting (APM) 20 October 2021
It has not been possible to hold an APM for 2 years due to COVID. We can now and have managed to arrange for this year’s APM on Wednesday 20th October at 7:15pm. Apologies for the short notice, due to many factors, not least a very busy Memorial Hall, the status of the Thames Farm development and SODC’s important confirmation this week that Shiplake’s submitted Neighbourhood Plan is valid and will be initiating wider public consultation in October.
Ultrafast fibre provided by Airband is imminent…unfortunately not without further roadworks this month. Ultrafast fibre should address the frustrations of many residents.
The Neighbourhood Plan reflects the expressed views of residents during last year’s Pre-submission Consultation and makes it possible for us to have greater control over future development in the parish.
Deciding what happens at Thames Farm is at a critical point with SODC making decisions on Taylor Wimpey’s (TW) latest drainage submission and the status of groundworks potentially having a drastic impact on water supplies in the area. TFAG, along with Shiplake, Harpsden and Henley councils, awaits the engineering consultancy JBA’s advice on TW’s proposals, which is expected later this week. SODC’s stated view is that the nature and extent of the groundworks requires a separate planning application. TW apparently are not in agreement. TFAG has already highlighted a ‘NEED FOR ACTION’ from residents in responding, as before, to the changed status of the application(s) once we have the consultancy reports.
October’s APM is focused on key issues – opportunities and serious challenges – for Shiplake in the coming months. We very much look forward to seeing you there.

Important Update to NP at APM on Thursday 9th May
The changes to SODC's Local Plan in December have led to a significant change of approach to the Shiplake Neighbourhood Plan. This will be presented at Thursday's meeting at Memorial Hall (7:30pm). It is your opportunity to express your views and have your questions answered.
Significantly, it will also be the last time Tudor Taylor will be chairing the meeting, as he 'steps down' from the parish council after representing the council as Chairman for most of the past decade. During this time Tudor has strongly represented the parish's interests with respect to the many challenges on planning matters e.g. Thames Farm and has been instrumental in facilitating significant improvements in communications and safety within the villages e.g. The Shiplake Villages Plan, Shiplake's website, level crossing barriers, 20mph speed limits and in initiating the Shiplake Neighbourhood Plan. On behalf of the parish council...Many Thanks!

Additional Important Presentation @ APM
In addition to the very important NP update at this week's APM (Wed 23/5), there will be a presentation by the consultants who have developed proposals for a 'Shared/Communiy Space' initiative in Station Road, Lower Shiplake.

An important date for your calendar - Wednesday 23rd May starting at 7:45pm at the Memorial Hall. A snapshot of the past year, an important update on the Shiplake Neighbourhood Plan(NP) and an exchange of views on the challenges facing the parish in the coming months.
The approval of development at Thames Farm and notification of SODC's allocation of the housing units to the Lower Shiplake settlement means significant changes to the Shiplake Neighbourhood Plan. Find out what Shiplake's NP now proposes to deliver and efforts to make sure the villages evolve in the way residents want them to.

Strong 'Turn out' & Healthy Debate at APM
Many thanks to all the residents who attended the Annual Parish Meeting and contributed to the debate on the BIG issues facing the villages. Our thanks also to John Howell (MP) for his contributions and support on a number of fronts....objections to the proposed development at Thames Farm, working with the Chilterns Conservation Board to review the local AONB and for the possibility of a cycle path alongside the railway track between Shiplake and Henley.
